What Does an Occupational Therapy Assistant Do?
An occupational therapy assistant (OTA) works with an occupational therapist (OT or OTR) to treat patients who have difficulty performing daily living and work activities due to illnesses, injuries, and disabilities. An OTA does some administrative tasks, including recording patients’ progress, and they work in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, nursing care facilities, and health care facilities.
Occupational Therapy is designed to give individuals independence. Specialties include pediatrics, physical therapy, and working with the elderly.
Requirements:
- Certification by the state required
- Associate degree and certification in Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) is required to become an Occupational Therapist Assistant
