What Does a Pharmacy Technician Do?
Pharmacy technicians assist the pharmacist by filling prescriptions, providing information regarding prescriptions to the public and other health care professionals, assembling medications, answering pharmacy calls, working with insurance companies, and tracking inventory. Good communication and customer service skills are key here.
Pharmacy technicians work in pharmacies, hospitals, mail-order pharmacies, or private pharmaceutical settings.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Certification varies by state
- Check with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) for requirements in your area
- Complete a program accredited by the Pharmacy Technician Accreditation Commission (PTAC)
